For those Halo 3-fans that thought Major League Gaming's stop in Orlando would be yet another Str8 Rippin-, Carbon- or Final Boss-victory, this weekend was some kind of eyeopener. By the Winner Bracket Final, all three teams had exited the upper ranks of the tournament. More details inside!

Carbon saw a 2nd round Winner Bracket knockdown against Chilled Reality, as they lost the game 3-1, while Str8 Rippin - one of the biggest favourites for the title - only lasted one round longer in the Winner Bracket.

After two games for each side, Str8 Rippin and Ambush took the final Team Slayer-game, of their 3rd round WB-match, to Pit. Here Str8 Ripping quickly marginalized Ambush and took the lead 47-37. The crowd left the game to watch other teams, but as Ambush started one of the most convincing comebacks in the league history, people rushed back. Coming from ten kills behind, Ambush took 13 out of the last 14 kills to win the deciding game 50-48.

Final Boss made it all the way to the Winner Bracket Semi-finals, before they ran into a hot Instinct-team, that beat them down to Loser Bracket with a 3-2 victory. With all the favourites in the Loser Bracket, Triggers Down ensured their place in the Grand Final, as they clean-sweeped Instinct 3-0 in the WB Final.

The quote "True champions win when it counts" holds some truth though. After being knocked to the Loser Bracket, Str8 Rippin found the momentum and motivation they had seemingly lacked in the Winner Bracket. In five straight games, the team lost only 2 rounds - combined. That included three consecutive shutouts against Final Boss, Ambush and Instinct.

Marching into the Grand Final, Str8 seemed to have everything going their way. They even took down the first set in the Grand Final, but just as they were supposed to put in the killing blow, Triggers Down hit back. And they hit hard. In three impressive rounds, Triggers Down took the MLG Orlando-title and sent Str8 Rippin home with a second place and a 0-3 defeat.

The final standings of the Halo 3-competition at MLG Orlando:

1. Triggers Down - $20,000
2. Str8 Rippin - $12,000
3. Instinct - $8,000
