The first two Quarter-finals in the CGS World Finals have been played, and much to everybody's surprise, the winners of the American regional finals, Dallas Venom, has been eliminated. San Francisco OPTX created the final blow to Venom, as their CS:S-team tore the Venom-team apart - thus delivering one of the biggest upsets in this season of CGS. Read inside to see the final scores for Sydney Underground vs. Berlin Allianz and Dallas Venom vs. SF OPTX.
Dallas Venom was a heavy favourite going into their Quarter-final against San Francisco OPTX, as they had won the North American Regional Finals in style. Having both Master and the CS:S-team as Individual World Champions for DoA:Male and CS:S respectively, just added fuel to those beliefs. The game started out with two of the biggest upsets in the league so far, as the ever-winning Vanessa lost her game in DoA:Female for OPTX. Master wouldn't stand back for that surprise and lost his Male-match with the same score as his female counterpart, thus leaving the game at a 8-8 tie after the DoA-matches. As FIFA and Forza 2 ended up giving another tie, everything would be down to the CounterStrike:Source-match. Against all odds, OPTX managed to take the CS:S match down in style. 11-7 was the final score on de_dust2, sending Venom out of the World Finals with a 23-19 loss at OPTX's expense. Berlin Allianz was pitted against Sydney Underground in the other Quarter-final, and the German side's DoA-players left nothing to the coincidence, taking a 10-1 lead after two games. As Allianz continued with wins in FIFA and Forza, Sydney was forced to take 16 round out of 18 in the CS:S-match to proceed to the Semi-finals. Allianz shut the Aussies down in the first half on de_inferno, winning 5-4 and thus winning the overall match. This didn't stop the teams from playing an intense second half, which eventually ended out in an overtime round going to Sydney. The proceeding team was however Berlin Allianz who took a comfortable 26-14 victory. The European franchise will now be pitted against OPTX in the Semi-finals, while the last two Quarter-finals are played out today. For more details and a full coverage, proceed to TheCGS.com.
